Optional: Creating a style uniform

Sometimes, we hate everything in our closet, and have no idea what to wear in the morning. For those days, a style uniform can be very handy. You can do your entire closet with that if you want, or just have a few options as a go to when you don’t know what to wear. A style uniform is meant as a guideline/base for inspiration. Something practical and appropriate for whatever situation you may find yourself in. It doesn’t have to be the same thing every day, and it doesn’t have to be boring. Create your avatar Imagine yourself as a cartoon character. If you were the most stereotypical version of yourself, what would your hair look like? What features would be most dominantly drawn? If you could only wear one outfit the rest of your life, what is the one outfit this character would be drawn in? For me, this would be super wide leg jeans, a fitted lace cami, and sneakers. Gold necklace/earrings/bracelet. Curly hair around brastrap length. Small pouty lips and a very pointy nose. A s...

Week 3: Wardrobe simplification

Evaluate your day to day needs Optional: create a style uniform (if nothing in your closet brings you joy) Build your capsule Create a loose organisation in the closet Store away anything not in the capsule Tip: At all times, remember this is NOT a closet declutter. You can do that at a later time. If you see anything you want to throw away or donate, you can throw it in a bag. But take that bag to the donation center or container right away. And anything you are not sure about, just keep it and store away for later. Evaluate your needs over the course of the month Before you can build your capsule, you need to identify what you need on a day to day basis. I will give some suggestions based on my personal needs, but always adjust it based on your own situation. Any specific requirements for workwear (dresscodes, uniform, personal preference) Workout sessions per week How much you go out (formal/party wear) The current season/the next 3 months (shoes, jackets, raincoa...

Week 2: Laundry System

Build your new laundry system according to the guide. Follow the new routine going forward. Tip: The routine will get even easier when you have simplified the wardrobe. The plan Identify your options Locate your ‘holy ground’, the place where you take off your clothes. This will usually be a spot on the floor where your dirty clothes end up. Not to be confused with the ‘chair’, where you put the clothes you can wear again. Where you naturally take off your clothes are where the laundry basket needs to live. This will naturally ‘catch’ your laundry, so it ends up in the right place, instead of the floor. Take note if you need to shift certain furniture around. This can feel annoying, but it will be highly beneficial in the long run. Build the structure Now that you have your spot, invest in two decent sized laundry baskets. They can be with or without a lid, but I recommend that they are lined with a bag that catches the laundry, that you can just pick up and move...

Week 1: Survival Meal Plan

First, design your recipes. You can use my suggested week plan as a guideline if you want, but adapt it to what you enjoy, and what you have available to you. Switch up the greens, the side, the spices and the protein at dinner, the toppings at lunch or the yoghurt at breakfast. This keeps things interesting, but still easy and low effort. Make a list of every food item you need to have available. Group them according to food group, and if you can, according to where you are at the grocery store. Pick one day every week where you get groceries. When you know what you need, you spend less time on getting them, and you are less tempted by impulsive purchases. Before grocery day, check which foods you are running low on, and mark them on the list.  Once a month, bulk buy the long lasting things (grain, meat to freeze, frozen veggies, etc.) That will make the weekly grocery trips a lot faster. You don’t have to go for all healthy foods, you can always add a frozen pizza ...
