Decluttering Guide

This one is detached from the others, because usually decluttering is a huge job, and will need to be done over time, or in one big swoop. This method can be done in one big swoop, but is just as easy to do one shelf/drawer at a time. Some days you have time and energy for more, sometimes less. If you are following the other steps in the program, you can do this when you have the energy, or add decluttering to your zone cleaning. For preperation, choose a spot in your home that is your 'donation center'. This is where you keep your donate box/boxes. Once these boxes are full, take them to the donation center, so they don't keep taking up space in your house. Same goes for trash. The method: 1) Pick a room, pick a closet/cupboard, go to the top shelf/drawer, and start there. If it is a dresser, you start with the top. I recommend starting in a place where you know you have a lot of non sentimental items that you would like to declutter, and preferably a room you spend a lot ...

Step 5: The Upgrade

Week 1: Mealplan Week 2: Wardrobe upgrade Week 3: Closet declutter Week 4: Beyond By now, you should feel fairly comfortable in your new habits. So it is time to upgrade once again. This is possible because you focused on building the foundations well, before adding on to it. This is not about building fast, it is about building strong. During all the steps, maintain the routines you have built until now. But each week, set aside a day or two to work on each project. If it is an option to take some vacation days, you can do that. Or you can use the weekend and some extra time after work. If you need to, you can extend it to two weeks for each project, but try not to drag them out for too long. Remember, if your life feels like it is crumbeling, revert back to the non negotiables, and build your way back up. Week 1: Mealplan By now, you might have grown a bit tired of having the same mealplan. It can be a big help to fall back on, but variety is always a plus. Applying the ...

Step 4: Zone Cleaning

Divide your house into zones. Writing detailed cleaning lists Rotate weekly between zones Create an overview Body doubling Use soap in the shower 3-4 times a week Snooze max 5 minutes in the morning Stay in this routine until it feels natural, and you succeed on most days (and get back on track fairly quickly). I recommend doing at least one rotation of each zone, preferably 2, before moving on to step 5. If you need a bit longer, do that. Divide house into zones Now that you have a regular routine, it is time to go a bit deeper. You need to divide your home into 4 zones. If you have only 4 rooms, it will be easy. If you have more rooms, group the rooms together how it makes sense. Suggestion: Zone 1: All bathrooms Zone 2: All bedrooms Zone 3: Common areas (office, living room, hallways, etc.) Zone 4: Kitchen and dining room Writing detailed cleaning lists Now that you have your zones, write down a detailed cleaning list for every task you need to get done. T...
